Reminder: Lunch 2.0 @ Powerset tomorrow

Filed under: San Francisco, announcement, eateries, lunch 2.0, powerset — tychay @ 7:46 pm

“Hey, I finally met the CEO of Powerset the other day.”

“Powerset? They’re like that Google killer that’s supposed to be using Natural Language Processing. Who’s their CEO again?”

“Barney Pell. They’re going to have a Lunch 2.0 tomorrow at their offices in SOMA and demo Powerset Labs.”

“Cool. I missed them at SFBeta.” *click click* “Damn, it’s filled up! And Powerset looks so cool (despite the fact they use Ruby).”

“Don’t worry, just go anyway, it’s not like half those people who RSVP’d in the city will remember to show. Besides, Barney is just like a cooler Jeff Bezos—there is no way he’s going to turn you away at the door.”

“Sounds like a plan!”

Just a quick reminder that Lunch 2.0 is at Powerset tomorrow (Thursday). They’re serving BBQ with vegetarian options, demoing their search product which uses Natural Language Processing to do searching and mashups.

Or is it Natural Lunch Processing?

See you all there!

(Oh c’mon don’t tell me that wasn’t the first thing that crossed your mind when you met Barney, you hypocrites! :-D )

Future Lunch 2.0’s

  • Thursday, August 9- (this event! :-)) (SF SOMA)
  • Wednesday, August 15- Plaxo, Mountain View
  • Wednesday, August 22- Spock, Menlo Park, CA (TBA)
  • Friday, August 24- CNET Networks, SOMA, SF (TBA)

Reminder: Intern Lunch 2.0 at Meebo tomorrow and a note about Powerset

Filed under: announcement, lunch 2.0, meebo, powerset — tychay @ 4:27 pm

Thanks to all of you who came to the Microsoft Lunch20-SF-imilation today, despite the power outages and half the Web 2.0 world falling off the Internets. (Hey, 365Main, you call yourself the “world’s finest data center”—how come Tagged, Craigslist, Technorati, Yelp, AdBrite, Slide, SixApart, Netflix, CNET, and RedEnvelope all went down and I had to find out through Twitter? Oh the irony! Doh! Hmm, Tagged, Craigslist, Technorati, Yelp, AdBrite, Slide, SixApart, RedEnvelope, Netflix, CNET and Twitter—you guys all need to host a Lunch 2.0 :-D)

A quick reminder that the next one is tomorrow (Wednesday) at Meebo in South Bay (Mountain View). Interns are invited but so is everyone else! It should be fun for those of you not at OSCON. Come and kick this summer into high gear! Oh yeah, here is the Facebook event, so you can take advantage of newsfeed to hint your friends where is the coolest place to scum a free meal. I heard all the cool kids are doing it…

Speaking of cool kids, it took a little convincing, but Powerset has upped the Lunch 2.0 invites on Upcoming. So if you were locked out before, now is your chance to get in. And if it closes out again, there is always Chris’s SFBeta tonight at 111 Minna where Powerset will be demonstrating their NLP search engine. (I’ll probably be there… in the Pirates baseball cap, Nikon camera. Stop by and say hi.)

Upcoming Lunch 2.0s…

  • Wednesday, July 25- this event (Mountain View)
  • Thursday, July 26- Mixer 2.0 (Palo Alto)
  • Wednesday, August 1- Facebook Happy Hour (Palo Alto)
  • Friday, August 3- Wishpot (Seattle)
  • Wednesday, August 8- AOL Mountain View (Netscape of yore), details to follow
  • Thursday, August 9- Powerset (SF SOMA)
  • Wednesday, August 15- TBD (South Bay)
  • Wednesday, August 22- TBD (Peninsula)

You can see summer dates are filling up fast—that’s a hint guys to contact Mark and me—especially, if you’re in SF. ;-) At Lunch 2.0, we’d love to eat your lunch!
