Lunch 2.0

December 21, 2007

Bored in SF this New Years Eve?

Filed under: San Francisco, announcement — markjen @ 7:17 pm

Our friend Kurt Collins is helping put together a rockin’ NYE party this year. It’s not free like other Lunch 2.0 events, but hey, you get an open bar plus desserts! Here’s the info:

First off, the year is almost over. Happy Holidays to everyone! It’s been a pretty awesome year all-around and I’m trying to end the year (and begin the new one) with a bang. Some of you know that I throw open bar parties once a month. Well, in lieu of one this month, I’ve decided to throw a New Year’s Party at Sugar Cafe on Sutter St. (near Taylor St.) in San Francisco.

Let’s get the details out of the way. Yes, this time, there is a cover fee. But it’s pretty reasonable and when you hear all the stuff you get for it, you’ll understand why there’s a cover.

Cover Charge: $60
Link to purchase tickets: http://www.ticketfusion.com/store/one/index.html?store_id=11633&page_type=ticket&show_id=356292
Location: Sugar Cafe, 679 Sutter St. (Between Mason and Taylor)
Kurt’s Cell Phone: (415) 786-3268
Kelly’s Cell Phone: (650) 387-9168
Time: 9pm – 2am
Theme: Black and Pink (wear it if you got it — and before you ask, I will be rocking a black and pink zuit suit if I can find one in the store with a feather in my hat, wing-tipped shoes, and you’re damn right I’m going to get a cane.)

There are a couple of very cool things about this party, though.

First off, it’s a completely private party. For those of you that know Kelly Rogal, the two of us are only inviting our friends to join us on NYE. So if you want a completely chill party with people you probably know and you don’t want to deal with the potential randomness of NYE, then come on through. There will be a DJ with a very small dance floor in case you want to get down. You can forward this invitation along to all of your friends as well to have them come on through. If we can get 200 tickets pre-sold to the event (by December 21st), then it will remain private. So purchase as soon as possible.

Second: OPEN BAR, BABY!!! Yes, we managed to get open bar between the hours of 9 and 11 so you guys can still get your open bar drink on. In my opinion, that alone is worth the cover charge.

Third: We’re giving away a ton of prizes. I could list them all here, but suffice to say, they’re good. You can only get the prizes if you buy a ticket before December 21st, though. There’s a beauty bash for 15-20 people with appetizers and wine… there’s a 2 month complimentary membership to the San Francisco Bay Club… there’s free bottle service at the Cellar… and then there’s stuff from Jack Daniels, Bacardi, Heineken, Red Bull, and tons more. I could go on, but I can’t type everything. Just go to the link above where you can purchase the tix to see a more complete description (that will be constantly updated).

Fourth: FOOD!!! Yep, we’re going to be serving free desserts all night long. Decadent, yummy, sweet, sweet goodness. Where else are you going to be able to go on NYE that’s going to serve you food without asking for your first born’s college tuition?

Fifth: Free champagne at midnight! Oh wait… what I meant to say was… free champagne all night long! So even if you don’t feel like paying for drinks after 11… you can always have champagne!

Come on guys… you can’t tell me that’s not all worth it. At the very least, I just want to ring in the New Year with some good friends in a comfortable spot with no muss, no fuss, and lots of fun. So for any of you that will be in San Francisco, please come on through. Kelly and I would love to see you all on the last night of the old year and the first couple hours of the new year.

We will also cover what we are working on and our vision for Paglo. It should be a lively discussion made even spicier by tasty Caribbean food from Back-a-Yard. San Diego did it’s second Lunch 2.0.

Filed under: lunch 2.0 — Andrew Warner @ 5:08 pm

I live in Santa Monica. This Friday, I drove a total of 5+ hours to SD and back — just so I could help put together a Lunch 2.0 and help the local community grow.

Was it worth it?

I wasn’t sure for a while, then I ran into a guy I used to compete aggressively with at a past startup. (His name is Jonathan Lieberman and you can see him in this picture.) Over pizza, we found ourselves joking about the way we fought for market share. (He sent my users “get out of jail free” cards to convince them to leave me and move to his service.) And we became friends. That’s why I like organizing Lunch 2.0 events. You can’t connect like this over the phone.

Any way, here’s a slide show of pictures from that event:

And you can see my flickr shots here.Thank you eventful for having us to your office. And thank you Dan Tentler and Edward O’Connor for hosting with me (Andrew Warner).(Hey, if you’re reading this, could you let me know by poking me on Facebook?)

Lunch 2.0 Goes Hawaiian Style!

The tech business lunch phenomenon that started in Silicon Valley — and spread globally to places like Germany, Netherlands and India — comes to Hawaii to provide the Aloha State’s tech community with a new twist on networking.

Lunch will be provided by HiBEAMHawaii Business and Entrepreneur Acceleration Mentors — a nonprofit dedicated to helping launch and build promising early stage technology, biotechnology and life sciences companies by providing expert professional advice and access to funding sources.

Featured at the event are two HiBEAM portfolio companies: PeopleBridge and ChipIn. Social networking platform provider PeopleBridge, founded by Dave Kozuki who started GlobalPauHana.org, is the largest social network specifically for kama’aina. ChipIn is a Web-based service that simplifies the process of collecting money from groups of people. Using a ChipIn widget, you can easily promote the ChipIns on the social networking sites you already use and track the demographics of those chipping in.

This Lunch 2.0 Hawaii is brought to you by Dave Kozuki, Wally Roth and Keith Kamisugi. We hope to see you there, and if you can’t be there physically, please, where ever you are, on Dec 28th, Friday, 2007, be sure to Lunch w/ Aloha…

Lunch 2.0 Goes Dutch

Filed under: Amsterdam, announcement, lunch 2.0 — Peter Robinett @ 4:25 am

We love the Silicon Valley Lunch 2.0s so much that we decided to bring them to Amsterdam, and so Lunch 2.0.nl was born! Amsterdam has a growing technology community and we’ll be eating our way across the city visiting both established companies and young startups. Expect the usual Lunch 2.0 mix of free lunches, and technology companies, and interesting conversation, but with more Dutch people. =) Of course, Amsterdam isn’t far from many other cities, so we encourage people from out of town to drop by.

Our first Lunch 2.0 event will be on January 18 at Hyves, who will tell us about what it’s like to have a quarter of the entire country using their social network. And stay tuned for more events! Our website is lunch20.nl and we are also on Twitter (@lunch20nl) and Jaiku (#lunch20nl).

Geek Dinner and Giving 2.0

Filed under: Geek Dinners, announcement, giving 2.0 — strimble @ 12:36 am

Crossposted from the Giving 2.0 blog…

I just recently started organizing Geek Dinners in the Bay Area. We had a good turn out for our first “official” Geek Dinner. About 20 people showed up to eat with us. It was great! I must admit though, I had an “evil plan” when organizing the Geek Dinner. Mmuuuhahahaa! Ok, it wasn’t actually an “evil plan”. I just think it’s fun to say that. So, here’s the plan…

At each Geek Dinner, I’m going to try to do a Giving 2.0 thing along with it. So, I created the next Geek Dinner for next week. Since I spoke with Kevin, the Community Service Liaison at the UCSF Children’s Hospital, I thought it would be a good idea to ask for trinkets for the kids at the Geek Dinner. So, if you’re planning on joining us for dinner, bring some trinkets for the kids. The trinkets can be pencils, stickers, erasers, or any fun little kid thing.

I hope you can join us for Geek Dinner 1.0.8.3. Sign up on Upcoming. There’s a limited guestlist.
