Thanks all who showed up to the Second Meebo Intern Lunch 2.0. Apparently there were a lot of you!.
Jeremiah reminds us that Hitatchi and Arcscale are hosting the Mixer 2.0 tonight (Thursday) in Palo Alto, and even though it says to register by July 24th, you can still sign up, so do so now!
We’ll be posting more Lunch 2.0’s in Silicon Valley and Peninsula soon, so stay tuned!
Thanks to all of you who came to the Microsoft Lunch20-SF-imilation today, despite the power outages and half the Web 2.0 world falling off the Internets. (Hey, 365Main, you call yourself the “world’s finest data center”—how come Tagged, Craigslist, Technorati, Yelp, AdBrite, Slide, SixApart, Netflix, CNET, and RedEnvelope all went down and I had to find out through Twitter? Oh the irony! Doh! Hmm, Tagged, Craigslist, Technorati, Yelp, AdBrite, Slide, SixApart, RedEnvelope, Netflix, CNET and Twitter—you guys all need to host a Lunch 2.0
)
A quick reminder that the next one is tomorrow (Wednesday) at Meebo in South Bay (Mountain View). Interns are invited but so is everyone else! It should be fun for those of you not at OSCON. Come and kick this summer into high gear! Oh yeah, here is the Facebook event, so you can take advantage of newsfeed to hint your friends where is the coolest place to scum a free meal. I heard all the cool kids are doing it…
Speaking of cool kids, it took a little convincing, but Powerset has upped the Lunch 2.0 invites on Upcoming. So if you were locked out before, now is your chance to get in. And if it closes out again, there is always Chris’s SFBeta tonight at 111 Minna where Powerset will be demonstrating their NLP search engine. (I’ll probably be there… in the Pirates baseball cap, Nikon camera. Stop by and say hi.)
Upcoming Lunch 2.0s…
You can see summer dates are filling up fast—that’s a hint guys to contact Mark and me—especially, if you’re in SF.
At Lunch 2.0, we’d love to eat your lunch!
Hi everyone, just a quick reminder that we’ve got Lunch at MSFT in downtown SF tomorrow!
Also, on Wednesday we got one for the peeps in the South Bay: the 2nd annual interns Lunch 2.0 @ Meebo! (Everyone’s welcome though, you don’t have to be an intern
)

Upcoming Lunch 2.0s…
Mat wrote to inform us that Millions of Us is having a half-Friday BBQ this coming Friday on the beach, just across the Golden Gate in Sausalito, and inviting all Lunch 2.0ers for beer, burgers, with them, their clients, prospects, journalists and analysts.
Hosts: Millions of Us
Location: Schoonmaker Point Marina Beach
Address: 85 Liberty Ship Way, Sausalito, CA
Date: Friday, July 20, 12:30-6PM

Official Announcement: Millions of Us blog
Millions of Us helps people and companies do business in and using virtual worlds. So, if you’re the type who thinks “SL” means Second Life, or are just wanting to kick it back in the First Life, then take a break, head down to the beach, and join the conversation. You know you’d love to get some meat in meatspace after a hard week working in cyberspace.

(Yeah, the first time I heard their name, I thought the domain was “millionsof.us” is that geeky or what?)
I heard a lot of whining recently about how we seem to be having a bunch of Lunch 2.0’s in “the city” and not enough in the cradle of Lunch 2.0 civilization: Silicon Valley. Bah! Do you have any idea how much work it is to take credit for all these events that other people do?
Have you heard of the high-flying social network in Palo Alto called Facebook. Well, all the hard work has paid off. Sure it took placing some well placed bribes (like creating a Lunch 2.0 group on Facebook—join it) and breaking out the wooden spoons (don’t ask), but we finally convinced them to host a Lunch 2.0, even though the company is bursting at the seams and space is tight—something about “growing so fast that the caterers are freaking out.”
Sure, that means that this Lunch is going to be in the evening…as a happy hour. But it promises to be just as geeky as ever: Check out the apps built at their latest hackathon, learn more about how you can build technology on the kick-ass Facebook Platform, enjoy a snack (note to Facebook: I’m partial to Cheetos and Frito Lays… and watermelon
).
Hosts: Facebook Platform team and Engineering
Address: 164 Hamilton, Palo Alto, CA, 94301
Date: Wednesday, August 1, 2007, 5-7pm
RSVP on Facebook (where else?)
Developers + Happy Hour + Lunch 2.0 = Awesometown
Space may be limited so please RSVP early.
Upcoming Lunch 2.0s
If there is one event last year that representing the “tipping point” for Lunch 2.0, it had to be last year’s Web 2.0 Expo at Hitachi Data System. (My personal tipping point was the first time my Lunch 2.0 was paid for. Thank’s Dave!
) The video Holly took of the Hitachi’s blowout never ceases to impress:
This year, they’re taking it in a different direction by inviting all Web 2.0 companies to MIXER 2.0: A meet and greet cocktail night with appetizers and drinks!
Hosts: Hitachi Data Systems and Arcscale
Location: The Blue Chalk Café
Address: 630 Ramona St, Palo Alto, CA, 94301
Date: Thursday July 26, 2007, 6:00-8:00PM
RSVP on SeeUThere (by July 24th)
PodShow and quigo will be special guests there!
It’s hard to believe it’s been less than a year since Jeremiah organized the Hitachi Lunch 2.0. And finally, he’s written down some Lunch 2.0 hosting tips he’s learned from that experience and being a tireless promoter of our events in in this must-read article.
Jeremiah writes:
“The Lunch 2.0 phenomenon is taking off, it’s spread to Seattle, and will spread to other areas in the United States, and then maybe global.…The modern Community Event is like a tupperware party. A genuine host caters and has real conversations in a laid back style, while the brand is gently present during the event…By giving, we were able to get more.”
Community events…we at Lunch 2.0 love the idea, which is why we’ve been big fans of Women 2.0 and Silicon Valley Web Builder (as well as avidly follow bub.blicio.us).
Show that the power of it extends far beyond the lunch by attending Hitachi’s MIXER 2.0.
Edit: Oh, did I forget to mention that all attendants can also pre-register for MIXER 2.0’s raffle for an iPhone? Bah. Who wants that crap anyways? Damn you, Steve Jobs!
Edit: For you event whores, here is the Upcoming link.
