Lunch 2.0

Two videos (and a reminder)

Filed under: JumpCut, NETGEAR, announcement, lunch 2.0, pictures, simplyhired — tychay @ 9:24 am

Our first Lunch 2.0 in San Francisco was great! Check out this video created by the JumpCut folks, over the internet, right in front of us, during the lunch.

Be sure to click on the “Remix” button at the end of the video—it’s like iMovie in your web browser. You can create a pretty impressive vide with this, even though it’s a little wonky in Safari. (Remember to check the “Add” tab where you can pull stuff tagged “lunch20″ from all of JumpCut.

Speaking of pretty impressive, check out this video created by PodTech about the NETGEAR Lunch 2.0. (Disclaimer: NETGEAR is a client of PodTech.)

It starts with the founders of Lunch 2.0 talking about how it all started, a tour of the NETGEAR event itself, and why NETGEAR hosted one. It looks so geek cool, I wish I was there… Oh wait!

Hmm, if you want to taste the buzz it’s not to late to go to the one at SimplyHired today in MountainView. Maybe you can grab a bunch of extra food for your buddies standing in line at Apple Store Palo Alto.

Reminder: Lunch 2.0 at JumpCut (today) and SimplyHired (tomorrow)

Filed under: JumpCut, announcement, lunch 2.0, simplyhired, yahoo — tychay @ 3:23 am

Just wanted to remind everyone that there is our first Lunch 2.0 in San Francisco today (Thursday) at JumpCut in the Yahoo Brickhouse.

Note this late addition to their upcoming announcement:

EDIT: Sorry that the list got closed at 100. We didn’t think that many people liked us. We’re trying to figure out how we can accomodate more people. Stay tuned!

Also, to round out the double header Tomorrow (Friday) is SimplyHired in Mountain View.

Note that if you’re receiving e-mail updates you probably missed the JumpCut one, but still can make the SimplyHired one. Blame Feedburner. ;-)

P.S. I’ll be at both. Is someone going to stand in line for an iPhone for me for “taking one for the Lunch 2.0 team?” :-D

Lunch 2.0 business cards

Filed under: faq, lunch 2.0, news, pictures, random — tychay @ 7:30 pm

As VC of Lunch 2.0, it is my job to make sure we run at a loss until we sell out. With all the free schwag that we’re getting from our gracious hosts, we’re in danger of recouping the $5 investment that I put in for the domain name.

I can’t let that happen and I’ve forced the others to seek a second round of venture financing with a pre-capitalization of… well… to be honest… it sort of breaks down there.

Oh well, I’m trying to increase exposure of Lunch 2.0 because a lot of people hear us through word of mouth and have complained that they don’t know how to get in touch with us to host an event. :-( So I had business cards printed out:

Lunch moo-point-oh has arrived

Lunch moo-point-oh has arrived
Tagged, Financial District, San Francisco, California

Nikon D200, Tokina AT-X PRO 16-50mm f/2.8 DX, tripod
2sec @ f/14, iso100, 16mm (24mm)

I had an extra deck printed and I’m trying to give away all the cards from it. The way this works is you view them on Flickr, mark the one you want with flickr’s notes feature, and contact me and tell me how I can get the card to you. Pretty easy, huh?

Quick links: one, two, three, four, five.

This is my way of saying thanks for coming out to Lunch 2.0 and thanks for hosting! Without you, we’d just be four guys trying to sneak into cafeterias in the Valley. :-)

Lunch 2.0 in the pink

Lunch 2.0 is in the pink. No, we’re not referring to losing less money, but to a bit of trans-Atlantic coverage. Lunch 2.0 made the Financial Times.

Chris Nuttall wrote Silicon Valley staff tuck into Lunch 2.0.

Chris also blogged it.

From the article,

In the latest example, more than 100 people turned up for lunch at the offices of Ning, a social networking web platform, in Palo Alto last week.

He found it curious how we made and consumed our own news, with Justin.tv and Bub.blicio.us
covering events that have a small but devoted audience. I think that makes us part of the new media.

LunchCut – Lunch 2.0 @ JumpCut and Yahoo! Brickhouse in SF, baby!

Filed under: announcement, lunch 2.0, yahoo — tychay @ 6:31 pm

JumpcutA little trivia: two of the Lunch 2.0 founders have recently moved to San Francisco. That meant we needed to find a way to get some Lunch 2.0 action up here in SF—besides, we’re tired of the drive down to see you guys every week. (Lunch 2.0 dates are filling up! Contact Mark Jen for it’s too late.)

Since we launched Lunch 2.0 with an informal invitation to Yahoo!, the folks of the recently Yahoo! acquired video editing and sharing website, Jumpcut, were happy to jump in an extend us an invitation to dine with them at the notorious Yahoo! Brickhouse in San Francisco. (read and watch more about Y! Brickhouse.)

In keeping with that Yahoo! spirit, just as at the anniversary lunch, invitations are being managed on Upcoming.org, so go there to RSVP!

Location: Jumpcut, a Yahoo! Brickhouse production
Address: Brickhouse, 500 3rd St, 5th Floor, San Francisco
Date: Thursday, June 28, 2007. 11:30PM – 2PM
RSVP on Upcoming.org.

For those of you who have been asking when we’re going to have a Lunch 2.0 “up in the city,” now you have no excuses. For those Lunch 2.0ers in the Valley, c’mon up and see us for a change. (According to one South Bay Lunch 2.0-er, “they’re like 10% cuter up there.”)

Karen, our gracious host, and the Jumpcut “geeks” have made a ultra-professional, super-polished, big-budget video invitation to you:

So cut off a little early and jump into the first SF Lunch 2.0! Sign up and tell all your friends to taste the buzz.

P.S. See you at Ning in Palo Alto tomorrow! Also, don’t forget that there is SimplyLunch 2.0 the day after this one in Mountain View.

Seattle Lunch 2.0: Zillunch

Filed under: Seattle, announcement, zillow — tychay @ 7:11 am

Seattle is on a roll with their second Lunch 2.0 event scheduled! And since Drew and the Zillow team are hosting, they have been able to double the real-estate over last time.

Ahh, I have great memories of Zestimating my coworkers’ homes. Good stuff!

Location: Zillow
Address: 999 Third Ave., Suite 4600 Seattle
Date: Wednesday, July 11
Time: 11:30AM – 1PM

If you didn’t see the pictures from the last event, Lunch 2.0 Seattle was a hit and there were plenty of developers, designers, marketers, and entrepreneurs to make the event interesting.

RSVP at Upcoming.org.

Of course, if anyone in the Seattle area is interested in hosting one before or after July 11th, let the folks at seattle.lunch20.com know!

For those of us in the Bay Area, remember that the next Lunch 2.0 is at Ning in Palo Alto next week!

Update: Here is the official announcement and Zillow’s announcement.

Taste the buzz

Filed under: Seattle, lunch 2.0, news, random — tychay @ 2:57 pm

Noticed in Computer Weekly that Lunch 2.0 is backlash again:

Tim O’Reilly has a lot to answer for. When the publishing guru coined the term Web 2.0 at a 2004 conference he spawned a generation of marketing puff. We have had Marketing 2.0, PR 2.0, Democracy 2.0, Identity 2.0, Jobs 2.0 and even Lunch 2.0. The numerical suffix has become shorthand for anything new and, more dubiously, groovy.

Score! But Danny forgot to mention: “tasty, funny, and subversive.”

Speaking of which, Josh Maher writes about the Seattle Lunch 2.0 kickoff. Hmm, looks like our buddies to the north are showing us up! Let’s make that up by being at the next Lunch 2.0 at Ning on Thursday, June 14th!
