Lunch 2.0

Regional 2-0s

Filed under: lunch 2.0 — Brenton Simpson @ 9:59 pm

So, I’m back down south, and I quite frankly I miss Lunch 2.0.  It’s a great place to meet people and learn about new projects (and who can frown at free tasties? Not I).  Which got me thinking, why not do Lunch 2.0 regionally?  The South Bay gets a lot of media attention regarding spiffy web projects, but that’s not to say that Seattle, Austin, Hollywood, Boston, Chicago, and other metro areas don’t have some cool startups lurking.  Cool startups that could say, grab grub on a weekly basis and bask in the collective ether that is innovation.

What do you think?  Do you think your friends in other places would be down for a Lunch 2.0?

(Speaking of Hollywood, if anyone down here would like to meet up let me know.  brenton!at?slipabuck~dot.com)

WebSIG starts up

Filed under: announcement — tychay @ 10:23 am

Bess Ho, an early Lunch 2.0 diner, has finally got Web SIG up and running by co-hosting events with the World Internet Center and SVIBA.

The first event is on Wiki Technology and Trends: Past, Now, and Future just before Halloween.

Location: Hurricane Electric, 48233 Warm Spring Blvd. Fremont, CA 945399
Date: Wednesday, October 25, 2006, 6:30 – 9:00 PM
Food: Networking / Food and Drink in the Lobby at 6:30
Who: RSVP at http://websig.mollyguard.com/.

Of course, what wiki event would be complete without Lunch 2.0 alumnus, JotSpot? One of the panel will be Scott Johnston, Jot’s Vice President of Products.

Keeping in the Lunch 2.0 spirit, admission is free. :-D Space is limited so RSVP now.

(Sign up for more Web SIG events.)

Wrapping up: A relaxing way to end the week, Thanks oDesk!

Many thanks to oDesk for setting up a great way to end a long week. This wasn’t like the super-active-demos Lunch 2.0 but a very chill way to hang with the oFolks.

oDesk treated their guests to beers and pizza on their well shaded patio. As fall rolls in, this was probably the last Lunch 2.0 that can comfortably be held outdoors in T-shirts. More pictures on Flickr tagged “oDesk

Folks were treated to product demos, given some T-Shirts “Making Geeks Rich”.

Thanks to oDesk for bringing in the spirit of Lunch 2.0 to the valley.

They’ve thanked everyone for coming on their blog!

oLunch 2.0!

Update: We’ve got about 50 RSVPs and only room for 50 more! Head on over and sign up soon to make sure you get a spot :D

oDesk BlingAh, the next Lunch 2.0 is upon us! oDesk is hosting us this Friday afternoon for a TGIF food & geekfest.

Location: oDesk, 4200 Bohannon Drive Suite 100, Menlo Park, CA 94025
Date: Friday, October 6th, 4PM-6PM
Swag? But of course! Free t-shirts for the first 50 people on Friday!
RSVP Required! We will only have space for 100 people this Friday.

WTF is oDesk?  oDesk is an Internet startup that provides an online marketplace for hiring global technical talent AND visual web-based collaboration tools to manage remote teams.  We recently raised $8M from Benchmark Capital, which we immediately used to purchase some totally pimped-out oDesk t-shirts (limited amounts available for early Lunch 2.0 attendees).  Beyond all the usual web 2.0 jive talk, our products are in production, we’re generating substantial revenue, and we’re growing.  Come join us Friday for a Late Lunch, and tell us about your latest project… we’ll show you our stuff too, and maybe you can even use oDesk to hire a few geeks to help build your next startup.

OK cool, r u Hiring?  YES, we’re hiring!  oDesk is pretty geeky and proud of it.  But if you’ve seen our website you know we could use a little help with our design skillz.  If you know an awesomely talented UI designer or graphics guru that could help us keep up with the Web 2.0 Joneses, we’d love to hear about them… as well as other alpha geek engineers, developers, and product managers.  We need more of those folks too.

To RSVP, leave a comment here on this blog entry along with your e-mail address. Don’t worry, your e-mail addy won’t be published, but we’ll be using it to track who is a RSVPed attendee.
